Men in the UK will be able to buy Viagra over the counter after consulting with a pharmacist and without a prescription for the first time today.

ViagraConnect manufacturer, Pfizer, estimates more than a fifth of men aged over 18 in Britain suffer from erectile dysfunction, but almost half of those over 40 have not sought medical help.

Where will Viagra be on sale?

The erectile dysfunction drug will be available in 14,000 stores across Britain and via pharmacy websites.

The tablets will be available exclusively from Boots until 10 April.

Who can buy Viagra over the counter?

Those aged 18 and over will be able to buy the tablets following a conversation with a pharmacist or after filling out an online form. Men can ask to speak to a pharmacist in a private consultation room if preferred.

The pharmacists will determine whether treatment is appropriate for the patient and give advice on erectile dysfunction, usage of the medicine and potential side effects. They will advise men to consult with their doctor no less than six months after buying Viagra so that any potential underlying conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease can be investigated.

A Boots spokesperson said that the man affected by erectile dysfunction should buy the drug themselves wherever practically possible.

Who will still need a prescription?

Men with severe heart problems, those at high risk of heart problems, liver failure, kidney failure, strokes or those taking certain other medicines, will still need to be prescribed the drug under the supervision of a doctor.

How much will Viagra cost?

A four-pack of the tablets will cost £19.99 and an eight-pack £34.99.

Men who buy it will be advised that they can take a 50 mg tablet an hour before having sex, but should not use more than one pill a day.

Viagra is is already available as an NHS prescription free of charge for those eligible not to pay for their prescriptions.

Is there a limit to how many tablets can be bought?

The pharmacist will decide how many packs will be supplied in a transaction.

Why has Viagra been made available over the counter?

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced in November it was to steer men away from buying the tablets from. In 2016 £17m worth of unlicensed and counterfeit Viagra was seized.

Kristie Sourial, Pfizer’s medical manager, said: “It’s important to remember that erectile dysfunction is a medical condition, and that the impact often goes beyond the physical symptoms – it can lead to men feeling anxious, depressed and lacking in confidence.

“Our hope is that the availability of Viagra Connect in pharmacies will encourage men who do nothing about their erectile dysfunction to seek help, and encourage those who are inclined to seek help to do so sooner.”

Who is Viagra available for use?

The UK licensedagra was the first oral medication approved by the FDA for erectile dysfunction, and worldwide distribution is also is being available for purchase.

A new study suggests that the anti-Viagra pill might lead to erectile dysfunction.

The study, published Monday in theJournal of the American Urological Association, was funded by Pfizer Inc. and was led by Dr. Irwin Goldstein, who is a consultant for Pfizer.

The researchers tested the blood-flow to the penis in patients who took the new anti-Viagra pills, which included sildenafil (sold under the brand name Viagra), and tadalafil (sold under the brand name Cialis), two drugs approved to treat erectile dysfunction. In the study, participants were asked to rate the intensity of sexual activity they enjoyed on a scale of 1 to 10. A higher score led to a stronger sense of sexual performance, but not for erectile dysfunction.

Dr. Goldstein, who is co-director of the University of Chicago's Sexual Medicine and Surgery Center, and co-author of the study, said the results are consistent with previous research that showed that sildenafil and tadalafil led to erectile dysfunction in a significant number of men.

"In the studies we found that participants who took the new drug experienced a significant increase in sexual activity compared to those who were not taking the drug," he said. "We found that the most common side effects of the drugs were erectile dysfunction and sexual dysfunction."

Goldstein said the new findings suggest that a new class of drugs could be an important treatment for patients with erectile dysfunction who are at high risk of developing the condition.

In the study, he said, "We found a significant association between the use of sildenafil and erectile dysfunction."

However, the researchers did not find an association between the use of tadalafil and erectile dysfunction.

The new study was presented at the 2012 Urology Conference, held in San Antonio, Texas, where Dr. Goldstein said that he was impressed by the results.

"It's an interesting study," said Dr. Goldstein, who is also the director of the University of Chicago Sexual Medicine and Surgery Center.

"There is a lot of interest in the idea that Viagra and Cialis help men with erectile dysfunction. We do know there is a connection. I think that there's a lot of interest in the idea that Viagra and Cialis are good for men with erectile dysfunction, but we're not sure that that is true," he said.

Goldstein, who is also the co-author of the study, said he believes the study is important because it demonstrates the potential for the drug to be effective in treating erectile dysfunction in men.

He said that while the study is reassuring, it will take several years to get to the bottom of the drug's effects and the study's results are not expected to become widely disseminated.

In a separate study, researchers compared the effects of sildenafil, the brand name for Viagra, and tadalafil, the brand name for Cialis, on patients who took the drugs for an average of 18 months.

The researchers found that patients who took the drugs reported a decrease in their erections and an increase in the severity of sexual intercourse. They also found that participants who took the drugs also experienced a decrease in the frequency of their erections.

Goldstein said he hopes the findings will encourage more people to seek help for their erectile dysfunction and encourage them to take the drugs more frequently.

He said that while the study is reassuring, it also shows that a new class of drugs may be an important treatment for patients with erectile dysfunction.

Goldstein, who is a professor of urology at the University of Chicago and lead researcher on the study, said that while the study is reassuring, it will take several years to get to the bottom of the drug's effects and the study's results are not expected to become widely disseminated.

He also said that the study is important because it demonstrates the potential for the drug to be effective in treating erectile dysfunction in men.

The study is published in the journal.
